WGN America, Tribune Media Company’s pay-TV network, April 13 launched an app for “Underground,” a 10-episode slavery-themed original series created by Sony Pictures Television.
The series, about a family enduring a 600-mile trek to freedom from a Georgia plantation, stars Aldis Hodge (“Leverage”), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (“True Blood”), Christopher Meloni (“Law & Order) and Reed Diamond (“Homicide: Life on the Street”), among others. The show generated 3.1 million “Live +7” viewers during its most-recent (April 6) broadcast.
The free app — Underground WGN — features behind-the-scenes videos, information and updated content that subscribers can download, integrate and share across social media. The app is available for iPad, iPhone and Android devices. Viewers can also tap into the “Underground” website and view episodes through TV Everywhere authentication.
“The response to ‘Underground,’ has been absolutely amazing. And now passionate fans of the show have a one stop shop where they can get the content they love at any time, all in one place,” Brian Dollenmayer, EVP of marketing and promotions for WGN America, said in a statement.
Chicago-based WGN America's other original series, "Manhattan," is created by Lionsgate.
