As expected, Comcast Corp. Dec. 7 named cable executive Neil Smit CEO of its cable operations.
Smit, who joined the Philadelphia-based No. 1 cable operator in 2010 after heading Charter Communications for five years, reports to Comcast chairman and CEO Brian Roberts. Smit previously was president of AOL.
The announcement was a formality since analysts had long believed Smit’s hiring was a precursor to greater responsibilities down the road.
Indeed, in a Dec. 5 presentation at the USB Global Technology and Communications conference in New York, Smit was introduced as CEO of cable operations.
