The trademarks, domain names and trade names for Borders and Waldenbooks were sold for $15.77 million, with companies including Barnes & Noble and Berjaya Books picking up various intellectual property assets from defunct retailer Borders Group.
The ecommerce site also was sold at auction, Hilco Trading LLC, announced Sept. 16. The results of the auction are subject to a bankruptcy judge’s approval.
“We are very pleased with the successful auction. The participants clearly recognized the significant strategic value in the Borders name and other assets linked to the Borders customer base, and the Borders estate benefited as a result,” said Holly Etlin, Borders Group CEO.
Ten booksellers, publishing companies and Internet retailers participated in the auction.
