Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Oct. 11 announced a new slate of 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc titles scheduled for release Dec. 6. They include Ben Affleck’s The Town and three-time Oscar-winning Argo, Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated Goodfellas, and I Am Legend, starring Will Smith. The Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack will include an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc with the movie in 4K with HDR, a Blu-ray (1080p) version, special features in HD, and a Digital HD version.
Ultra HD Blu-ray showcases 4K resolution (four times 1080p) with high dynamic range (HDR) and a wider color spectrum, offering brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors. Viewing movies in 4K requires a compatible 4K Ultra HD TV with HDR, an Ultra HD Blu-ray player and a high-speed HDMI (category 2) cable.
Argo, about six Americans who managed to avoid being taken hostage by Iranian militants at the U.S. Embassy following the overthrow of the Shah in 1979, will be available on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack for $44.95. The movie is also available in 4K Ultra HD via select digital retailers.
The Town, about a Boston neighborhood notorious for bank heists, will be available in 4K UHD Blu-ray for $44.95 and separately via digital purchase.
Will Smith stars as a post-apocalyptic survivor in I Am Legend, which is also available for $44.95, and features an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc with the feature film in 4K with HDR, a Blu-ray disc with the feature film, alternate version of the film, and special features in HD, and a Digital HD version of the feature film. The movie can also be purchased digitally.
Cited by the late critic Roger Ebert as “the best mob movie ever,” GoodFellas follows the rise and fall of a trio of gangsters over 30 years. Based on the true-life best-seller Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi, the film earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director (Martin Scorsese) and was named 1990’s ‘Best Film’ by the New York, Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics. In 2000, GoodFellas was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the U.S. Library of Congress.
Like the others, the movie will be available for $44.95, featuring an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc with HDR, a Blu-ray disc with the re-mastered movie in HD, a Blu-ray disc with the special features in HD, a Digital HD version, and available digitally.
