Blockbuster Selling $50 Blu-ray Player With Movie Combo/Total Access Subscription

Participating stores touting 49-cent catalog movie rentals and 99-cent video games for “open house” weekend event Nov. 19-20
Blockbuster LLC is selling a $49.99 Blu-ray Disc player to consumers who sign up for either the in-store Movie Combo or by-mail Total Access subscription programs.
The rental chain is also holding an “Open House Weekend” () at many of its 1,500 stores Nov. 19-20, featuring 49-cent catalog movie rentals (on $1.99 titles) and 99-cent video games, among other events.
McKinney, Texas-based Blockbuster Nov. 19 will also stage Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 tournaments at select stores, followed by a Kids Day Nov. 20.
Blockbuster Combo Pass offers unlimited in-store rentals and DVDs and one by-mail rental per month for $14.99 per month, which is now available to first time subscribers during the Open House for only $7.49 for the first month.
“Our ‘Open House’ weekend is just one of the many ways we are striving to provide consumers with a full-service entertainment experience,” said Blockbuster president Michael Kelly in a statment. “With more than 100 million people living near a Blockbuster store, we can provide consumers with immediate convenience and an unparalleled atmosphere for fun and entertainment.”
Separately, through the holiday season, Blockbuster is offering shoppers “Build Your Own Box Set,” which includes three previously viewed movies or games for $19.99 or five for $29.99. These titles, including Blu-ray, are normally priced at up to $14.99 each. Additionally, selected new movies normally priced at up to $12.99 can be purchased three for $24.99 or five for just $39.99.
