Blockbuster Releases New iOS App

Blockbuster LLC has released a new iOS application for its Blockbuster By Mail DVD service, allowing subscribers to manage their rental queue online, watch trailers and check for title availability at local Blockbuster stores.

“Blockbuster By Mail members no longer have to be at a computer screen to add, re-prioritize or organize movies in their queue,” said Mitch Weinraub, Blockbuster VP of product. “Our on-the-go customers can use the iOS app anywhere to easily peruse our 100,000-plus title catalog and decide which new release to watch next.”

The updated app comes as Blockbuster beefs up its marketing efforts for both its Blockbuster on Demand VOD and DVD-by-mail services, after parent company Dish Network reported earlier this month that Blockbuster saw its first-quarter revenue drop 50%.

Blockbuster closed 150 stores during the first quarter, and now operates approximately 500 stores nationwide.
