Best Buy Selling $60 Blu-ray Player on Black Friday

12 Nov, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Best Buy is slated to sell the Toshiba BDX1100 Blu-ray Disc player for $59.99 on Black Friday, according to a 12-page ad circular leaked online.

The annual post-Thanksgiving (Nov. 26) retail holiday typically opens the holiday shopping season with one-day specials and deep discounts.

The entry-level ($99.99 SRP) Toshiba player (no Internet connection) is heretofore the lowest-priced non-refurbished unit on the market and is $18 below the previous least-expensive BD player from Magnavox and sold by Walmart.

Indeed, Walmart in 2003 helped jumpstart DVD player sales when it bowed a unit for $39.99 on Black Friday — a markdown that reportedly led to consumer rushes in some stores.

Minneapolis-based Best Buy is also selling the Internet-connected Sony BDPS370 Blu-ray player for $99.99, which can be wireless with a separate Wi-Fi adapter.

Connected Blu-ray players typically include apps for easy access to Netflix streaming (separate subscription required) and transactional movies from Blockbuster On Demand, Amazon VOD and Vudu, among others.

Best Buy will sell numerous DVD movies for $3.99 each, including The International, The Perfect Getaway, Year One and The Blind Side, among others. Blu-ray titles, starting at $7.99 each include Whiteout, Watchmen (director’s cut), V for Vendetta, The Departed, The Crazies (includes digital copy), Superbad (two-disc unrated edition), Reservoir Dogs 15th Anniversary Edition, Law Abiding Citizen, I Am Legend and Hancock, among others.
