Barnes & Noble Brings Nook Video App to iOS, Android, Roku

19 Aug, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey

Owners of iOS, Android and Roku devices can now access Barnes & Noble’s Nook Video service via a free application.

Previously the video service was accessible on Nook devices.

“With the new Nook Video apps, customers can now easily access the thousands of movies and TV shows available from major studios and content partners on their TV and mobile devices,” said Jonathan Shar, VP and GM of emerging digital content for Nook Media. “Combined with the built-in Nook Video offering on the critically acclaimed Nook HD and Nook HD+, and Nook’s seamless UltraViolet integration, we are offering customers one of the most dynamic and accessible movie and TV show stores available.”

Nook Video offers content from all major studios as well as several independents, and offers content for both rent and purchase.

The expansion of Nook Video to other devices comes after the retailer announced it would scale back its Nook tablet business, after Barnes & Noble’s Nook division saw its fiscal 2013 fourth-quarter sales down 34% to $108 million.

The reported quarterly loss of $118.6 million June 25 by the retailer led to the resignation of CEO William Lynch in July.
