‘Lost,’ ‘Alien Anthology’ Dominate 2011 ‘Home Media Magazine’ Awards

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s Lost: The Complete Collection and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Alien Anthology Blu-ray were the big winners of the inaugural Home Media Magazine Awards, which honored the best DVDs and Blu-ray Discs of 2010.

Lost: The Complete Collection earned the top prize of Title of the Year, as well as TV DVD of the Year, Best TV on Blu-ray, Best Complete-Series TV DVD Set and Best Trinkets/Collectibles. The series boxed set included a map of the show’s island setting, as well as a blacklight to read hidden messages, a game and more. In addition, Lost: The Complete Sixth Season was named Best Current Series TV DVD, a category for discs with episodes that aired during the most recent TV season (2009-10).

Other Disney winners include Toy Story 3 for Best Animation Title on Disc, Toy Story: The Toy Box Collection for Best Boxed Set, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland for Best 3D Disc and Waking Sleeping Beauty for Best Nonfiction Movie on Disc.

The Alien Anthology Blu-ray set won for Blu-ray Disc of the Year, Best Extras, Best Film-Franchise Collection and Best Packaging for its limited-edition alien egg configuration.

Fox’s Avatar won two awards, for Best Blu-ray Disc Movie and Best Box Art for the collector’s edition.

Other Fox winners include the Return of the Jedi spoof Family Guy: It’s a Trap for Best Direct-to-Video, The Simpsons: The Thirteenth Season for Best Contemporary Series TV DVD (the category honors episodes that aired from 1990-2008) and The Sound of Music: 45th Anniversary Edition for Best Musical on Disc. In addition, 24: The Complete Series won the Fan-Favorite Title on Disc, thanks to a surge of support from the show’s Facebook page.

Winners were chosen by a panel of judges in conjunction with an online consumer vote for eligible titles submitted for consideration by studios and distributors.
