'Spartacus: Vengeance' on Disc Sept. 11

The second season of the Starz “Spartacus” series, Spartacus: Vengeance, arrives on DVD and Blu-ray Sept. 11 (order date Aug. 15) from Anchor Bay Entertainment.

Spartacus: Vengeance follows up Spartacus: Blood and Sand and its prequel, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, in telling the story of a Roman gladiator who started a rebellion against those who would enslave him. Liam McIntyre took over the title role from the late Andy Whitfield. The Sept. 11 release date serves as a tribute to Whitfield, marking one year since his untimely death at age 39 from cancer.

The show also stars Lucy Lawless, Peter Mensah, Manu Bennett, Dustin Clare, Craig Parker, Katrina Law and Viva Bianca.

The three-disc DVD ($49.98) and Blu-ray ($59.99) sets include all 10 episodes, plus several behind-the-scenes featurettes and a blooper reel. In addition, the Blu-ray will include nine extended episodes and audio commentaries.

The 10-episode third season of “Spartacus,” dubbed Spartacus: War of the Damned, will premiere on Starz Jan. 13 and will conclude the “Spartacus” saga.

“It was an extremely difficult and emotional decision for my partners and I,” said executive producer Steven S. DeKnight said. “Yet, in the end, the story was best served by rolling all of the remaining action and drama of Spartacus’ journey into one stunningly epic season that will be extremely satisfying for everyone who’s been along for the ride.”
