Amazon Prime Gets MGM Movies, TV Shows

13 Jun, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Amazon June 13 said it signed a licensing agreement with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. enabling it to stream hundreds of catalog movies and TV shows to its subscription-based Prime membership loyalty program.

Titles range from The Silence of the Lambs, Dances with Wolves, Rain Man and The Terminator, to TV series “Stargate Atlantis,” "Stargate Universe," "Dead Like Me," "Thirtysomething" and "The Pink Panther Show," among others.

The latest license agreement now brings Prime’s streaming offering to more than 18,000 movies and TV episodes. Unlimited streaming to the Kindle Fire tablet and several hundred consumer electronics devices, including the TV, is a value-add to the $79 annual Prime platform that allows members to receive next-day or free shipping on most Amazon purchases.

“MGM offers one of the most distinguished catalogs in all of Hollywood, and this deal will bring Prime Instant Video customers hundreds of new titles to enjoy on their Kindle Fire or any device compatible with Amazon Instant Video,” Brad Beale, director of digital video content acquisition for Amazon, said in a statement.
