'Ted' Tops List of Goodies

11 Dec, 2012 By: John Latchem

With the holiday shopping season in full swing, retailers are breaking out the exclusives to promote hot new titles.

Target promoted four new titles in its weekly ad circular and offered exclusives with all of them. Most prominent was Ted, packed with a talking bottle opener and a bonus disc of a half-hour of exclusive content. Target’s Ice Age: Continental Drift Blu-ray combo pack came with 50 minutes of exclusive content, its version of The Bourne Legacy came in a steelbook case, and its copies of the first season of HBO’s “Girls” came with 80 minutes of commentary.

Best Buy offered a Ted plush doll for $4.99 (regularly $9.99) with the purchase of the film on DVD or Blu-ray. Best Buy’s Bourne Legacy Blu-ray included 30 minutes of behind-the-scenes content, and a $5 savings when purchased with a previous “Bourne” Blu-ray. And the chain sold the 3D Continental Drift with a Mammoth Christmas 3D movie.

Walmart offered the Continental Drift Blu-ray combo with a pirate Scrat plush and the Ted Blu-ray with a Thunder Buddies T-shirt.
