Sales to Kick Off Summer
28 Jun, 2011 By: John Latchem
As the extended editions of “The Lord of the Rings” films make their way to Blu-ray Disc, Best Buy offers an exclusive deluxe version of the trilogy boxed set at $99.99 that includes a six-character figurine set. The figurines alone are valued at $54. Best Buy previously had offered fans a copy of the “one ring” on a chain with preorders of the trilogy boxed set.
Otherwise, June 28 was a relatively quiet week at retail.
Target didn’t even stock the new “Lord of the Rings” boxed set in stores, sending customers online for a copy. And in Target’s weekly ad circular, the only new releases for the week promoted by Target were the Fox titles Season of the Witch and The Warrior’s Way.
Target used most of its weekly ad to tout a summer sale, with select DVDs at $1.99, $5.99 or $9.99 each.
Warrior’s Way wasn’t listed in Best Buy’s weekly ad circular, which understandably was geared toward “Lord of the Rings.”
New Best Buy sales include $14.99 for Blu-ray movie two-packs and recent new releases for as low as $9.99 on DVD.
