Holiday Scatters New Titles

A holiday schedule that pitted both Christmas and New Year’s on a Tuesday, the traditional day for new releases to hit shelves, caused a fair degree of havoc with the release schedule. Most studios took whatever titles they had for the end of the year and slotted them on the nearest Monday or Friday. Even so, most of the retail attention was on clearance sales to make room for the new year.
Among the exclusives for the first week of 2013, Target offered a Dora the Explorer: Dora Rocks DVD at $12.99. Best Buy offered an exclusive Blu-ray/DVD combo pack of Cosmopolis, as well as a selection of underwater 3D documentaries on Blu-ray for $24.99 each, such as Coral Reef 3D and Amazing Ocean 3D.
Walmart offered $7.50 coupons in select Warner Blu-rays good for discounts to see Warner movies in theaters through Feb. 12.
In addition, Walmart offered the exclusive DVD of Comedy Central's Tosh.0: Cardigans Plus Casual Jackets, offered at $12.95, and Sony Pictures' Resident Evil: Retribution DVD packed with the original film for $19.95.
