A Week of Wimpy Deals
21 Jun, 2011 By: John LatchemBest Buy made Warner Home Video’s Unknown its top title of the week, touting its lack of availability at Netflix and Redbox. The chain also centered a promotion on two new Universal titles, The Adjustment Bureau and The Eagle, offering a $5 savings for buying both on DVD and a $10 savings for buying both on Blu-ray.
However, Best Buy’s most prominent promotion for the June 21 new-release week involved the upcoming theatrical debut of Transformers: Dark of the Moon and a chance to obtain a coupon to upgrade a movie ticket to see the 3D version. Best Buy offers the coupon with copies of the Dark of the Moon CD soundtrack ($9.99), and the films Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (both offered at $8.99 for the DVD and $12.99 for the Blu-ray).
Target put most of its promotional muscle behind Fox’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, offering a $5 savings with the purchase of the DVD or Blu-ray and any “Wimpy Kid” book or select kids DVDs.
Target also has an exclusive new TV DVD title courtesy of Paramount Home Entertainment and CBS DVD: The Best of I Love Lucy, offered at $9.99.
