Toshiba Unveils New 3DTVs, Media Guide

9 Jan, 2012 By: Chris Tribbey

Toshiba Jan. 9 unveiled a set of new passive-glasses 3DTVs featuring Wi-Fi, remote interoperability with Android devices and a built-in MediaGuide, featuring metadata provided by Rovi.

“Toshiba’s new smart TVs should be called genius TVs,” said Scott Ramirez, VP of product marketing and development for Toshiba America Information Systems’ Digital Products Division. “Our 2012 premium 3DTVs make discovering, navigating and organizing content simple and provide new levels of interaction with network-connected PCs and tablets, making the promise of a truly smart house a reality.”

MediaGuide provides 2.5 million program descriptions, 120,000 celebrity profiles, data on TV shows since 1960, and allowing users to search both TV channels and their home network. A built-in browser allows for access to virtually any website.

The 3DTVs, available in 42-, 47- and 55-inch screen sizes, also feature 2D to 3D conversion.

The TVs will be available in March. Pricing has not been announced.
