Warner Bros. Digital Distribution is producing a second season of “Mortal Kombat: Legacy,” with filming now under way in Los Angeles for a premiere slated for the second quarter of 2013, exclusively on Machinima.
The live-action Web series is based on the “Mortal Kombat” video game franchise and takes a deeper look at the rivalries and histories of the fierce warriors featured in the game. The first season in 2011 drew more than 60 million views on Machinima.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2 is directed by Kevin Tancharoen and stars Harry Shum Jr. (“Glee”) as Kuai Liang, Casper Van Dien as Johnny Cage, Brian Tee as Liu Kang, Mark Dacascos as Kung Lao, and Ian Anthony Dale (“Hawaii Five-O”) as Scorpion.
“Fans are in for a real treat with the second season of ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy,’” Tancharoen said. “With added visual effects and storylines that dive deeper into our warriors as they make their way to the tournament, we’re taking this series to a whole new level.”
The first clip will debut at the 2013 Streamy Awards Feb. 17.
