Projections: 'Risen' Hoping to Rise on Charts
30 May, 2016 By: John Latchem
Sony Pictures' Risen is hoping its core faith-based audience will push it to the top of the home video sales charts.
Risen earned just $36.9 million at the domestic box office, though it received considerable retail attention and its religious themes — the film tells the story of a Roman soldier's search for the missing body of Jesus — should give it a strong built-in viewership.
Of course, it will also have to contend with the ongoing success of Fox's Deadpool, the No. 1 disc seller the past two weeks.
Other newcomers vying for a top spot include Warner's How to Be Single and Paramount's Zoolander No. 2.
On the rental chart, Universal's Ride Along 2 comes off its 28-day holdback from Redbox and should take the top spot.
