‘Inception’ Leads the Pack Among Oscar Winners on Disc

While Best Pic ‘The King’s Speech’ Bows April 19
After all was said and done, several familiar faces walked away with Oscars following the Feb. 27 Academy Awards Ceremony, with The King’s Speech and Inception leading the way with four statuettes apiece.
While Inception is now available on DVD and Blu-ray from Warner Home Video, those who haven’t seen King’s Speech in theaters can wait for its home video bow April 19 from Anchor Bay.
In addition to Best Picture, Speech won for Best Director for Tom Hooper, Best Original Screenplay for David Seidler and Best Actor for Colin Firth. According to reps for Anchor Bay, the home video will include the ‘R’-rated version, not the ‘PG-13’ version the Weinstein Company now wants to push into theaters.
Inception tallied its awards for cinematography, sound editing, sound mixing and visual effects. The film’s four Oscars is the most for a film that was not also nominated for Best Director since The Matrix at the 2000 ceremony, which also won four.
Among other films already available on disc, The Social Network (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) won three Oscars, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Aaron Sorkin, Best Film Editing and Best Original Score. Pixar’s Toy Story 3 (Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment) won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for Randy Newman’s “We Belong Together.” Disney won two more Oscars for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, for art direction and costume design. And The Wolfman (Universal Studios Home Entertainment) won for Best Makeup.
Best Documentary Feature winner Inside Job hits DVD and Blu-ray March 8 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Paramount Home Entertainment March 15 releases The Fighter, which won Best Supporting Actor for Christian Bale and Best Supporting Actress for Melissa Leo. And Black Swan, a Best Actress winner for Natalie Portman, dances its way to DVD and Blu-ray March 29 from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
