‘Crocodile Hunter’ to Debut Kids’ Series on FHE This Summer
19 Apr, 2001 By: Kurt IndvikCrikey! Artisan Home Entertainment has found another way to bring SteveIrwin, the Crocodile Hunter, into homes this summer.
The children’s branch of the popular “Crocodile Hunter” TV series, “Croc Files,” will debut on cassette and DVD May 22 (prebook April 21).
“These [‘Croc Files’] titles already have a good foothold in the children’s demographic,” says Glenn Ross, president of Family HomeEntertainment at Artisan.
More educationally based than the original series, Croc Files still features Irwin, his wife Terri and their dog Suey as the hosts. The Croc Files series will be released in two dual-episode videos: Charlie/How to Catch a Crocodile and Aussie Legends/PacificNorthwest. Each video is priced at $14.98. The DVD, priced at $19.98, contains all four episodes.
Steve Irwin’s show “Crocodile Hunter” can be seen on the Animal Planet channel, the Discovery channel and on NBC during the prime-time viewingblock. “Croc Files” is also widely broadcast on television on AnimalPlanet and one of the Discovery channels.
Artisan released six VHS cassettes and two DVDs of the Crocodile Hunter series last year, shipping approximately 500,000 units combined.
“They exceeded well above and beyond [our expectations],” says Kajsa Vikman, director of marketing for Family Home Entertainment at Artisan.
