Vudu in New Sony Blu-ray Disc Players
15 Mar, 2011 By: Erik GruenwedelVudu, the movie and TV show download service owned by Walmart, March 15 said its app now is included in Sony’s new 2011 Blu-ray Disc players and Blu-ray Disc home Theater systems.
Santa Clara, Calif.-based Vudu has an extensive catalog of major studio movies, including new releases in high-definition, available for transactional video-on-demand on street date.
New releases rent for $5.99 in 1080p resolution and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound, $4.99 for high-definition and $3.99 for standard definition. Electronic sellthrough for new releases are less than $15. Catalog rentals are available for as little as $2 for 48 hours.
Vudu is available on BDP-S280, BDP-S380, BDP-S480, BDP-S580, BDP-S780, BDV-E280, BDV-E580 and BDV-E780W players. The new units expand Vudu’s market penetration to more than 300 consumer electronics devices, including Internet-connected TVs, PCs, PlayStation 3 and iPhone.
