QuickPlay Joins UltraViolet

24 Jan, 2011 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Video software provider QuickPlay Media Jan. 24 said it has joined the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem, otherwise known as cloud-based UltraViolet.

Through UltraViolet, households will be able to create an account for up to six members who can access their cloud-based movies, TV and other entertainment acquired via participating retailers, streaming providers and devices.

Consumers also will be able to register up to 12 media devices to download or share content among them. In addition, UltraViolet streaming access will enable consumers to access their collections via set-top boxes and most places where they can access the Web.

“DECE and QuickPlay Media share a common goal — to broaden the scope and reach of consumer choice by providing entertainment wherever, whenever,” said Mark Teitell, GM of DECE, in a statement.

QuickPlay last year bowed technology that allows wireless device operators to customize transactional video-on-demand storefronts, offer digital locker system and seamless viewing capabilities across smartphones, PCs and other consumer electronics devices.

Six studios last month said they would begin offering UltraViolet content this year, complementing DVD and Blu-ray Discs with the cloud-based digital format and service.
