Disney Touts Record July Video Streams

9 Sep, 2008 By: Erik Gruenwedel

The Walt Disney Co.’s Web site, Disney.com, posted a record 186.7 million video streams in July, topping the previous record of 182.7 million streams set in July 2007, according to data compiled from comScore Video Metrix.

Disney Online, a unit of Disney Interactive Media Group, recorded a 39% increase in video streams from June, with time spent viewing increasing 50% month-over-month.

The site ranked sixth among all online video destinations, including YouTube and MySpace, according to comScore.

Disney Online, which features Disney’s immense portfolio of new and catalog children’s fare, saw a 30% spike in movie views July 14 with the first look of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures’ new feature High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

Other drivers included coverage of the third annual Disney Channel Games competition, the latest Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus music videos and the Disney Channel reality series “Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream.”

The music videos helped increase video streams for the Disney Music category 161% while the Disney Channel TV Network increased 25%.

“Our commitment to forge new territory in online entertainment continues to be validated by new guest engagement landmarks such as our latest video results,” said Paul Yanover, EVP and managing director of Disney Online.
