Stand-up routines and comedy specials can purchased for $5 following broadcast on Comedy Central
Comedy Central July 11 launched a new distribution platform offering downloads of uncut and uncensored stand-up specials for $5 a performance.
Dubbed CC: Stand-Up Direct, the site offers a wide range of stand-up content while at the same time providing comedians with a revenue model and promotional platform via Comedy Central’s brand extensions such as CC.com, Comedy Central Certified Clubs, Comedy Central Radio and Comedy Central Live Entertainment.
The launch included 22 original one-hour specials from comedians such as Daniel Tosh ("Tosh 2.0"), Anthony Jeselnik, Chris Hardwick, Nick Kroll, Jeff Ross and John Mulaney, among others.
Additional titles will be added during the coming months along with new specials, which will be made available for purchase just days after their premieres on Comedy Central.
"Our goal was to develop a platform that is as easy to use as possible," said Erik Flannigan, EVP of multiplatform strategy and development with Viacom Entertainment Group.
Flannigan said Comedy Central patterned the transactional VOD site on what several comedians had done on their own.
"We took the best of that approach and added Comedy Central's marketing and promotional capabilities on all screens,” he said.
Last month, the brand launched a free video app called CC: Stand-Up. Clips, trailers, behind-the-scenes content and a complete list of performances is available at or the Facebook .
