Stores Focus on Big Savings

While plenty of new titles are released each week, not all are destined for store shelves. Of all the new titles Feb. 15, only two titles were consistently available at all the major retailers, though both are relatively high-profile releases during their theatrical runs: Unstoppable and Waiting for “Superman.”
Otherwise, discounts dominated most of the promotional attention.
Target led the way with a huge selection of recent hits such as Toy Story 3, Inception and Iron Man 2 at just $9 each on DVD. Information about this sale dominated the front cover of Target’s weekly ad circular, with bold text declaring it to be Target’s “lowest price of the season” and “must-see savings.”
Best Buy had a similar promotion, with recent hits on DVD at $8.99 or $11.99, and Blu-ray versions at $13.99 or $16.99. Some of the titles on the list have been available on disc for less than a month.
Best Buy also began offering some exclusives on Blu-ray, such as The Cove, the original Thomas Crown Affair with Steve McQueen, Almost Famous and Out of Sight.
