Since its debut April 12, the YouTube premiere of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution’s original digital media series “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” has garnered nearly 6 million views.
The nine-part series is based on the “Mortal Kombat” video game franchise and features new episodes debuting weekly. “Legacy” is a live-action anthology that brings to life the motivation behind each character’s participation in the Mortal Kombat tournament. Each episode provides insights into characters featured in the just-released Mortal Kombat video game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
New ad-supported episodes of the series are available each week at youtube.com/machinima. The series stars Michael Jai White (The Dark Knight) as Maj. Briggs, Jeri Ryan (“Star Trek: Voyager”) as Sonya Blade and Darren Shahlavi (“300”) as Kano. Other franchise characters featured in the series include Scorpion and Sub Zero.
“[Director] Kevin Tancharoen delivered an amazing production that millions of fans around the world are enjoying,” said Thomas Gewecke, president of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the reception it’s received. This is truly a testament to the quality of the series and the ongoing popularity of the ‘Mortal Kombat’ characters and franchise.”
