Report: Xbox 360 May Get Motion-Censor Camera14 May, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey
Watch out Wii: Microsoft Corp. is looking to put a motion censor video camera on the Xbox 360.
Citing anonymous sources, The Wall Street Journal reported May 13 that Microsoft was working on a video camera for the 360 that would allow gamers to control moves in games with their bodies. The camera would be an attempt to compete with Nintendo’s No. 1 next-generation gaming Wii console, which uses motion sensor technology for its games.
“Unlike the Wii, the Microsoft camera won’t require users to hold any hardware to control on-screen action, the people familiar with the matter said,” the Journal wrote. “The camera would sit near the television and capture when players move their hands, legs or head.”
The camera would use 3-D technology, the Journal wrote, and would be slated for a 2010 release.
