Xbox Live Gets Twitch App

15 May, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey

Xbox Live Gold members now have access to the official Twitch application, an online gaming community forum.

Twitch offers access to 300 live video streams of gaming broadcasts, garnering 34 million unique viewers a month. More than 800,000 people stream live gameplay on the service, the company said.

“Our app for Xbox 360 brings Twitch video to the television and into the living room of millions of Xbox Live members for the first time,” said Twitch CEO Emmett Shear. “The app will let every Xbox Live gamer find and watch streams of their favorite games from their couch. Given the huge number of Xbox owners and how many of them love gaming spectatorship, it's a natural fit to bring the Twitch experience to the 360.”

Twitch has partnerships with gaming companies Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Activision and Sony Online Entertainment, among others.

“We’re very excited to create more amazing Xbox 360 experiences,” said Martin Sacchi, GM of content acquisition for Xbox. “Twitch brings a whole new category of live gaming video content that Xbox 360 owners will love.”
