PBS Launches Xbox 360 App

23 Oct, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey

The launch of the Xbox One may be less than a month away, but that’s not stopping Microsoft from adding more content for owners of the Xbox 360.

On Oct. 22 PBS announced it was launching a new app for Xbox Live Gold members on the Xbox 360, offering on-demand, full-length episodes and clips from PBS programs and local PBS stations.

“Austin City Limits,” “Frontline,” “Masterpiece,” “Nova,” “Secrets of the Dead” and original online programming from PBS Digital Studios are among the programs users can access.

“This launch is an important next step in our strategy to make PBS content available through a variety of platforms, while maintaining the connection between the viewer and their local PBS station,” said Jon Brendsel, VP of product development for PBS Digital. “While PBS member stations will always be the first place to find high-quality PBS programming, the launch of our Xbox 360 offering recognizes that viewers are looking to engage with their local station in the time and manner they choose.”

Kathy Styponias, GM for Xbox’s interactive entertainment business, added: “As one of America’s favorite destinations for high-quality content on television and online, PBS is a great addition to our expansive lineup of entertainment experiences on Xbox 360. The addition of PBS is another example of how we’re continuing to expand our catalog of entertainment so that Xbox Live members can find all of their favorite experiences in one place.”
