Fallon Takes Top Webby5 May, 2009 By: John Latchem
Comedian Jimmy Fallon, host of NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” May 5 was named the Webby Award winner for the Internet’s Person of the Year.
Before taking over the talk show from Conan O’Brien in March, Fallon gave fans a preview with online sketches and other content, and he keeps in constant contact with fans through Twitter.com. Fallon’s award comes a year after another talk show comedian, Stephen Colbert, won Person of the Year.
Other winners at the 13th Annual Webby Awards, honoring the best in Internet-based content, included Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, named Artist of the Year for making his 2008 album The Slip available for free at the band’s Web site.
“Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane earned Film and Video Person of the Year for his Web-only series “Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy,” which heads to DVD May 12 from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
Twitter won the award for Breakout of the Year.
The Webby Awards are presented by the 600-member International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Winners will be honored during a June 8 ceremony in New York, hosted by “Saturday Night Live” star Seth Meyers.
