Walmart to Bow Second Original DVD Movie ‘Project’9 Jul, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Walmart and consumer products manufacturer Proctor & Gamble are partners a second time for the July 17 release of original made-for-television family movie The Jensen Project on a DVD/CD bonus pack.
The movie, which stars Kellie Martin and LeVar Burton, among others, is based on a fictional secret community of geniuses conducting underground research to help solve some of the world’s most difficult problems. It airs July 16 at 8 p.m. CT on NBC.
The CD soundtrack is produced by Randy Jackson and includes songs from Jordin Sparks, Brooke White and Alisan, Ilsey & Jordan.
Project (www.thejensenproject.com) follows the successful Walmart/P&G collaboration on Secrets of the Mountain, which aired in April and is the highest-rated family movie on broadcast TV of the last six months (watched by more than 7.5 million people), according to P&G.
A third movie, A Walk in My Shoes, is in post-production and will air later this year. P&G and Walmart will also begin production on a fourth movie this fall.
The two companies decided to work together to create programming after research from family groups found a demand (and advertising support) for alternative entertainment options.
Indeed, data from Secrets of the Mountain revealed that among moms aged 18-34, 93% liked the movie, and 88% said it was good/excellent quality. Eighty-five percent thought it was right for families and 79% want it to be a regular series.
