Wal-Mart Opens ‘Twilight Saga’ Stores15 Mar, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Wal-Mart March 15 officially launched its in-store shops surrounding the highly-anticipated DVD/Blu-ray Disc release of hit teen vampire movie The Twilight Saga: New Moon at 12:01 a.m. March 20.
The Bentonville, Ark.-based retail behemoth is joining separate efforts by retailers nationwide to promote the packaged-media releases of New Moon, which together with simultaneous releases on cable and satellite, is expected to be one of the biggest home entertainment retail initiatives of the year.
Indeed, the original Twilight movie sold more than 3 million discs and was the highest revenue-generating VOD title in 2009, according to Summit Entertainment.
Wal-Mart, which said Twilight was the most pre-ordered DVD release in its history, said all 24-hour stores would be open to entertain fans shortly after midnight Friday evening, including distributing Twilight-themed giveaways to the first 100 in line.
Among the many offerings in the Twilight Saga Shops include the New Moon Ultimate Fan Edition, the only DVD to be released with a sneak peek of this summer theatrical release, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
