Verizon Adds 174,000 FiOS TV Subs23 Jul, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Verizon Communications July 23 said it added 174,000 subscribers to its FiOS TV subscription service in the second quarter (ended June 30).
The industry’s only fiber-optic, pay-TV/VOD/DVR service, launched in 2005, now has 3.2 million TV and 3.8 million Internet monthly subscribers.
Together with AT&T U-verse, the telecommunications operators are ratcheting up services to compete against cable and satellite in the burgeoning pay-TV/VOD/DVR market.
Verizon said average revenue per user (ARPU) for FiOS customers (TV and Internet) was $145 per month, up 11.4% from the same period last year.
FiOS TV earlier this month broadcast two New York Yankees baseball games in 3D.
