Rentrak Signs Phase 4 for New VOD Tracking Service

23 May, 2011 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Rentrak May 23 said it inked independent distributor Phase 4 Films to its nascent video-on-demand data tracking service.

The Portland, Ore.-based media measurement and revenue-sharing company said the agreement (in addition to a similar deal for theatrical data) allows Phase 4 to more accurately mine consumer usage of transactional VOD and other on-demand programming accessed via set-top boxes provided by cable and satellite TV operators through its existing OnDemand Essentials platform.

“Phase 4 is now directly distributing video-on-demand, a category that is highly competitive,” said David Richardson, EVP of sales and marketing for Phase 4 Films, which features a catalog of more than 1,500 titles. “OnDemand Essentials is our choice for providing timely, accurate and actionable information for our movie titles.”

OnDemand Essentials processes daily, census-level on-demand data representing more than 80 million set-top boxes from 38 cable, telco and satellite providers and 100% of the top 25 operators offering video-on-demand, according to Rentrak.

Rentrak’s primary business remains facilitating rev-share agreements with major studios and independent video retailers for DVD and Blu-ray Disc movies.
