Rentrak Signs MTV Networks to TV Tracking Service

Rentrak Corp. March 15 said it inked an agreement with MTV Networks to monitor the company’s audience data usage for programming and advertising across video-on-demand (VOD), digital video recorder (DVR), interactive (repurposed) and linear television.

The Portland, Ore.-based media data measurement and DVD/Blu-ray Disc rental revenue sharing company said MTV represents the first cable network to sign up for its TV Essentials service.

MTV, along with most major cable operators, already incorporates Rentrak’s cable-based tracking of on demand VOD and pay-per-view use by consumers.

"Audience research powers everything we do at MTV Networks," said Colleen Fahey Rush, EVP, strategic research and insights, MTV Networks, in announcing the company’s decision.

Rentrak reported a net loss of $579,000 during its most recent financial period, ended Dec. 31.
