9 Sep, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Rentrak Corp. Sept. 9 said it signed newly formed video-on-demand (VOD) network Right Network to its growing client base of content aggregators seeking data on consumer on-demand habits.

Launched this summer, RightNetwork (www.rightnetwork.com) aims to offer VOD content to the 18-to-34 year-old, tech-savvy male demographic via third-party cable and satellite operators.

“The VOD platform remains a high-growth area for video entertainment and as new networks are created to meet the demands of the industry,” said Carol Hinnant, SVP of national network sales, Advanced Media and Information (AMI) at Portland, Ore.-based Rentrak.

Indeed, digital distribution of movies, including transactional VOD rentals, generated about 20% of home entertainment revenue during the first half of 2010, according to CES: The Digital Entertainment Group.

Rentrak said its OnDemand Essentials processes daily on-demand data representing 80 million set-top boxes from 38 MSOs and 100% of the top-25 operators offering video-on-demand with their extensive on-demand data being used by more than 150 network and studio clients.
