Quickflix Re-launches in New Zealand Offering Transactional VOD

4 Dec, 2016 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Quickflix, the former bankrupt subscription streaming video service in Australia and New Zealand, is re-launching operations in New Zealand primarily as a transactional VOD service.

Now based in Auckland, Quickflix Access and Quickflix Red Carpet enable subscribers to watch new release movies via transactional VOD (“Access”), in addition to pre-paid discounts on bulk new releases and chances to attend industry events in Los Angeles (“Red Carpet”). Subscribers will also be able to stream catalog titles.

Erik Pence, who bought Quickflix out of bankruptcy in October for $1.3 million, was named to its board along with Paddy Buckley and Vaughn Smith.

“Our new plans for New Zealand mean Quickflix members do not have to join a subscription service and still wait months to get access to the newest movies,” said Buckley in a statement.

Buckley believes the service will succeed New Zealand, a region he considers underserved by Hollywood.

“Quickflix will be the most fun way for all Kiwis to get the movies they want more quickly and at a better value than anywhere else. We’re just getting started.”
