New York-based VOD and PPV company In Demand has partnered with Beijing-based media company Seven Stars Media Limited to distribute sports, music and lifestyle content across several channels in China.
In Demand will license and deliver content to Seven Stars, which plans to distribute the content via cable through pay-TV operators who have a target audience of 80 million households, and via over-the-top companies and the Internet. In Demand will also offer Chinese-language movies to cable operators here in the United States.
“The marketplace in China for cable programming holds tremendous promise,” said Bob Benya, president and CEO of In Demand. “With nearly 200 million cable TV households — of which 70 million are expected to be VOD-enabled within two years — we are laying the groundwork to provide a range of entertainment to China’s growing TV viewer base.”
