In Demand Launches Spanish PPV, VOD Service

22 May, 2012 By: Chris Tribbey

Transactional and subscription entertainment service In Demand has launched the first Spanish language-only PPV and VOD service, expected to debut during the fourth quarter of 2012.

Made available to all cable systems in the United States, the service will include live sporting events with commentary produced in Spanish, including boxing, mixed martial arts, Ultimate Fighting Championship, wrestling, World Cup qualifying soccer matches and international soccer exhibitions. In Demand will also offer Spanish language music, reality and drama programming.

The number of Spanish-speaking cable subscribers in the United States has grown by nearly 50% since 2004 to nearly 14 million homes, according to Bob Benya, president and CEO of In Demand, which is owned by Comcast, Cox Communications and Time Warner Entertainment.

“Bringing an array of compelling Spanish language programming is a priority for all of our affiliates and this new service will enable them to better serve their Hispanic customers, who are very savvy media consumers,” he said.
