Chinese Firm Inks VOD Deal With Screen Media22 Oct, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel
On Demand Holdings Inc., a Chinese video-on-demand and pay-per-view service based in New York, Oct. 22 said it signed a licensing agreement with Screen Media Ventures to distribute their films on transactional video-on-demand and subscription VOD.
Screen Media films available on You On Demand include Mike Myers’ Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery; Drop Dead Gorgeous, starring Kirstin Dunst; What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio’s first Oscar-nominated performance opposite Johnny Depp; Where the Heart Is, starring Ashley Judd and Natalie Portman; and romantic comedy Music From Another Room, starring Jude Law and Gretchen Moll.
The deal underscores a burgeoning Chinese VOD market bereft of Hollywood movies — even titles nearly 20 years old.
“Screen Media is one of the leaders in distribution and marketing of independent feature films and we're very excited about adding their content to our platform,” Shane McMahon, CEO of You On Demand, said in a statement.
Screen Media now joins Warner Bros., Disney Media Distribution, NBC Universal, Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate, Miramax, Magnolia Pictures, Gravitas Ventures, Film Buff, K2 Communications, 3net and Big Mama Digital Entertainment (Karaoke) as content providers working with You On Demand in its efforts to bring the best in home entertainment to audiences in China.
