Holiday shoppers curious about a movie they may give as a gift but aren’t so sure about owning it themselves can have their cake and eat it too, thanks to Amazon.com.

As part of Amazon.com’s new Disc+ On Demand program, consumers who purchase select titles on DVD or Blu-ray will also receive the Amazon Video On Demand version to watch instantly.

Eligible titles, which are marked with a special Disc+ logo, include Land of the Lost, Bruno, State of Play, Funny People, Drag Me to Hell, Men in Black, Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, Superman, Fast & Furious, The Wizard of Oz and Ken Burns’ documentaries National Parks: America’s Best Idea and The War.

A standard-definition digital version of the purchased film will be placed in an Amazon.com user’s Your Video Library upon completion of the transaction to buy the disc. The user can then choose to stream the film on a browser or choose from a list of viewing options, including download for offline viewing. Videos can be played on a Mac, PC or compatible devices.

The video must be watched within 30 days of the purchase, and is available for 24 hours after it is activated. Customers who return the disc enabling the free video will be charged the usual on-demand fee. The promotion applies only to residents of the United States.
