Research firm The NPD Group reports video game sales were down 5% overall in January, compared with January 2010, falling to $1.16 billion from $1.22 billion.
Hardware sales were down 8% for the month and software sales were down 5%, compared with January 2010. Video game accessories were the lone bright spot, up 6% from January 2010.
The No. 1 game of the month was Call of Duty: Black Ops (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Nintendo DS, PC), followed by Just Dance 2 (Wii) and Dead Space 2 (360, PS3, PC).
