China Xbox One Launch Back On23 Sep, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Without citing a reason for the delay, Microsoft will bow Xbox One in China on Sept. 29 — six days after the original launch date
Microsoft Sept. 23 announced that its Xbox One video game system will launch at retail in China on Sept. 29 — six days after its original Sept. 23 release date. The software behemoth gave no reason for initial delay.
Xbox One is the first foreign gaming system in 14 years allowed to retail in the communist country, where the gaming community reportedly is the third largest in the world.
As such, Microsoft is eyeing China as a major market to help boost Xbox sales, which heretofore have lagged behind rival Sony’s PlayStation 4. Sony, which is also planning to enter the Chinese market, recently announced unit sales exceeding 10 million for the PS4 since its launch in the fourth quarter last year.
The Xbox One units will be distributed by BesTV New Media Ltd., a Chinese IPTV set-top manufacturer, which is also manufacturing them.
