'Furious 7' Extended Edition Hits Retail Speedway Sept. 15

Before mega dinosaur reboot Jurassic World catapulted Universal past $1 billion in domestic box office revenue (six months earlier than in 2014), the studio’s top-grossing movie was Furious 7.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing Furious 7 Sept. 15 on DVD and Blu-ray Disc with Digital HD UltraViolet. The seventh installment of the "Fast & Furious" action franchise generated more than $1.5 billion in worldwide box office following its April 3 debut.

In addition to reuniting franchise regulars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black as they deal with a vengeful assassin, Furious 7 represented the last movie for Walker, who was killed in a car crash during a filming break at the actor’s charity event over the Thanksgiving weekend in 2013.

The accident, in which driver Roger Rodas and passenger Walker were killed after crashing a Porsche Carrera GT at 100 mph into a concrete lamp post in Valencia, Calif., coincidentally involved the kind of street race car that helped popularize Fast & Furious movies and immortalized Walker’s penchant for high-performance vehicles.

The actor’s death resulted in suspension of filming, with final production completed in 2014.

Furious 7 also introduces newcomers Jason Statham (the "Expendables" and "Transporter" franchises), Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, Gladiator), Tony Jaa (Ong-bak), Nathalie Emmanuel ("Game of Thrones"), Ronda Rousey (The Expendables 3) and Kurt Russell (Poseidon, Escape From New York).

Bonus materials with the DVD and Blu-ray include several featurettes. In “Back to the Starting Line," producer Neal Moritz, Chris Morgan and the cast join franchise newcomer director James Wan (Saw) in a look back at how far the franchise has come to bring the latest installment to life. “Race Wars: Furious 7” brings the crew back to Race Wars, the fictional racing event from the very first film. “Snatch and Grab” is a behind the scenes look at shooting one of the premier action sequences in the franchise’s history. The disc also includes a look at the making of the "Fast & Furious" Supercharged Ride.

The Blu-ray also exclusively includes an extended edition of the film, as well as additional featurettes. “The Cars of Furious 7” feature the movie’s car coordinator and his team for a closer look at the film’s spectacular cars. “Flying Cars” showcases how the Furious 7 team pulled off one jaw-dropping sequence. “Tower Jumps” looks at how one of the most exciting stunt sequences of the film, the Abu Dhabi tower jumps, became a reality. “Inside the Fight” features a combination of fight training footage and interviews showcasing hand-to-hand fights. In “Talking Fast,” director James Wan and the cast break down the movie’s most memorable moments and chat about how the franchise has evolved over the years. Finally, the Blu-ray includes deleted scenes and the “See You Again” music video with Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth.
