Comcast Taps Burke to Run NBC Universal27 Sep, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Comcast Corp. has picked COO Steve Burke to head NBC Universal when the No. 1 cable operator’s majority acquisition of the GE-owned media company receives regulatory approval.
Burke replaces Jeff Zucker, who will continue in an advisory position until the $30 billion merger is completed.
Burke was an executive at The Walt Disney Co. until joining Comcast more than 10 years ago.
Comcast and GE also said that there will be no additional structural or personnel announcements until the deal closing process and timing is certain.
NBC Universal operates Universal Studios Home Entertainment, whose operations are headed by Craig Kornblau.
Separately, in accordance with the agreement between Vivendi and GE covering Vivendi’s full exit from NBC Universal, French-based Vivendi has concluded the sale of 7.66% of NBC Universal to GE for $2 billion. The remainder of Vivendi’s stake, or 12.34%, will be sold for $3.8 billion to GE upon completion of the GE – Comcast transaction.
