Warner Celebrates 60th Anniversary of Hanna-Barbera Studio With 'Diamond Collection'

27 Jun, 2017 By: John Latchem

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Hanna-Barbera animation studio by releasing a comprehensive catalog of the team’s classic cartoons as part of a new “Diamond Collection” line.

The studio was founded July 7, 1957 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, who then went on to create characters such as The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, Yogi Bear and more.

The Diamond Collection will include more than 70 seasons of the most popular animated titles of the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, many of which have not been released on DVD or digitally until now. The Diamond Collection will feature brand-new packaging, new digital content, discount pricing and select free episodes throughout the summer surrounding the milestone anniversary. The first collections under the new branding were released in May 2017 and are rolling out through December 2017.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the milestone 60th anniversary of the legendary Hanna-Barbera animation studio with the Diamond Collection releases this Summer,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, WBHE VP of television marketing, family and animation.  “Hanna-Barbera created some of the most beloved animated characters of all time. We are honored to celebrate this legacy with this new collection that has something for everyone, from first time viewers to avid collectors.”

Hanna and Barbera had worked together as animators since 1939 for MGM, where they created the “Tom and Jerry” shorts, before forming their own production company in 1957. Together, they won eight Emmy Awards, seven Oscars, a Golden Globe, a Governor’s Award and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Their company has released more than 3,500 half-hours of animated programming, hit television features, PSAs, shorts, commercials and specials.
