Shout! Factory Slates ‘Leave It to Beaver,’ ‘Street Hawk’ for DVD7 May, 2010 By: John Latchem
Shout! Factory’s aggressive acquisition strategy will yield complete-series sets of “Leave It to Beaver” and “Street Hawk” this summer.
The 37-DVD Leave It to Beaver: The Complete Series includes all 234 episodes of the 1957-63 family sitcom at $199.99, with a release date of June 29. The boxed set includes a commemorative booklet, a full disc of bonus material including reflections with the cast and crew, and a replica of the original Leave It to Beaver Money Maker board game.
Also available June 29 will be a six-DVD set ($39.97) of Leave It to Beaver: Season Three, for those who want to add onto the first two season sets released previously by Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
Through a licensing agreement with Fabulous Films, Shout! Factory July 13 (order date June 15) offers Street Hawk: The Complete Series as a four-DVD set at $39.97. The set includes all 12 episodes of the 1985 series about a former cop who fights crime using a technologically advanced motorcycle (think “Knight Rider” on two wheels). The show starred Rex Smith, Joe Regalbuto and Jeannie Wilson, with such guest stars as George Clooney, Christopher Lloyd, Dennis Franz and Robert Beltran.
July 27 (order date June 29), Shout! completes its releases of the 1980s “G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero” cartoon with G.I. Joe: The Movie, a feature-length animated adventure that first debuted on TV in 1987, following the original run of the series. The movie explores the origins of the evil Cobra organization and pits the Joe team against an ancient race determined to destroy humanity. The voice cast includes Don Johnson, Burgess Meredith and Sgt. Slaughter.
Shout! is planning special-edition DVD ($16.97) and Blu-ray ($26.97 combo pack with the DVD) releases for G.I. Joe: The Movie that offer the film in both 16:9 widescreen and 4:3 full-frame formats. Extras include commentary with story consultant Buzz Dixon, the final eight “Knowing Is Half the Battle” PSAs not included in prior “G.I. Joe” DVDs, an art gallery and a printable screenplay that contains the original death of Duke scene.
An empty tray for the movie was included in Shout! Factory’s “G.I. Joe” complete-series boxed set last year.
Shout! Factory also plans to release MLB Bloopers: Baseball’s Best Blunders on DVD June 1 at $14.97.
