Genius Products and Sesame Workshop Nov. 10 release Sesame Street: 40 Years of Sunny Days, 40 years to the day from the original premiere of the children’s series in 1969.
The two-DVD set includes nearly six hours of show highlights, plus never-before-seen archival footage and a limited-edition, hard-covered commemorative book. Iconic segments include Ernie’s bath-time song “Rubber Duckie” from season one, Kevin Clash’s first episode as Elmo in season 17, Maria and Luis’ wedding in season 19, Abby Cadabby’s arrival in season 37 and more. Celebrity segments include appearances by James Taylor, Pattie Labelle and Smokey Robinson, among others.
Extras include an interview with writer-director-producer John Stone; an interview with puppeteer Carroll Spinney on Oscar the Grouch; an interview with Clash about the origin of Elmo; a look at the creation of Abby Cadabby; rehearsal footage; the “Bert and Ernie String Tied” segment voted the fan favorite at Amazon.com; trivia and pop-up fun facts.
The series has won 122 Emmys and 10 Grammy awards. The anniversary set is listed at $29.93 with an order date of Sept. 29.
