Anchor Bay Sets ‘Spartacus’ for Sept. 21

The Starz Original series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” will see a Sept. 21 release on DVD and Blu-ray Disc from Anchor Bay Entertainment.

The 13 episodes will be spread across four discs for both sets, and both will feature high-end collectible packaging. The Blu-ray set will include four director’s cut extended episodes, selected by executive producer Rob Tapert. The Blu-ray set will be priced at $79.97 while the DVD set will be priced at $59.97. Order date is Aug. 25.

Bonus features include commentaries, interviews, episodes with enhanced digital effects, behind-the-scenes footage, bloopers, trailers and a series of featurettes.

The series first premiered in January and stars Andy Whitfield (The Clinic), John Hannah (the “Mummy” films), Manu Bennett (30 Days of Night), Peter Mensah (300), Nick E. Tarabay (“Crash”) and Lucy Lawless (“Xena: Warrior Princess”).

Starz will air a six-part prequel in early 2011.
