First Look Media Rebranding Production Studio15 Mar, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Studio behind Oscar-winning ‘Spotlight’ is now called Topic
First Look Media (not to be confused with shuttered First Look Studios) March 15 rebranded its studio production company to “Topic.” The studio was behind 2015 Oscar Best Picture 'Spotlight.'
New York-based Topic will continue to finance, develop and produce a broad range of feature films, documentaries, original series and digital programming.
Recent podcasts include “Missing Richard Simmons” by Dan Taberski and “Intercepted with Jeremy Scahill.” Topic is bringing back the second season of political comedy podcast “Politically Re-Active,” hosted by W. Kamau Bell and Hari Kondabolu.
“It’s the perfect time for us to officially brand our entertainment studio as we accelerate our efforts to develop more great content with some of the best creative talent in the world, and begin to establish an even more direct relationship with the audience,” Michael Bloom, president of First Look Media, said in a statement.
Upcoming projects include Brotherhood of the Bomb, a feature film from director Dan Powell (Comedy Central’s “Inside Amy Schumer”) based on the book Brotherhood of the Bomb: The Tangled Lives and Loyalties of Robert Oppenheimer, Ernest Lawrence, and Edward Teller by Gregg Herken. The film explores the tumultuous relationship between Oppenheimer and Teller, the scientists responsible for the advent of the atomic bomb (dubbed “The Manhattan Project”) in Los Alamos, N.M.
